The Norris Addiction Treatment Center (Norris ATC) is a 44-bed inpatient facility operated by the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports. In addition to treating substance abuse, they treat patients with co-occurring mental health disorders and patients with gambling addictions. They are also equipped to treat patients who are deaf or hearing impaired. The goals of the treatment program are to:
- Provide a psychologically and physically safe environment to promote a positive treatment experience.
- Facilitate the stabilization of the patient emotionally and physically.
- Explore choices and motivation for changing to a clean/sober lifestyle.
- Develop strategies and resources to carry out that change in their community.
- Facilitate chemical dependency education and information services to patients and their families, as well as staff and other community agencies.
While this facility does not deny care to anybody based on their ability to pay, they are strict in their admissions criteria. To be admitted, it must be clear that a patient cannot or has not succeeded in maintaining their sobriety in lower acuity levels of care.
